Site Input Needed

Happy New Year!
That term is a bit overused sometimes, but it applies to Webcomic Planet.
Okay some serious business. I want your feedback on the following items. They are not in any particular order. I will be discussing these topics with the Board and want to know what you all think as well.
My goal for Webcomic Planet is it be a source for webcomic news, information, tutorials and reviews. It is my opinion we have to give the visitors a *reason* to come to the site besides just being another vanilla webcomic listing site. Not that the listings are not important, but it is my feeling they are not primary, but secondary. If people are visiting, then they’ll see the listings as well.

Okay, you voted and here are the results!
President: Antoine Gagnon
Vice President: Kurt Sasso
Treasurer: Scott Story
Secretary: J. Gray
I used the total number of votes to place people into their respective positions. So Antoine received the most number of votes, Kurt second, etc. Dawn Griffin received the third highest votes, but with her upcoming personal schedule and business commitments at present, she had to decline participation at this point. She is going to be working with me on a number of graphic elements as well as help out as she can. I respect her decision totally and will do the same for anyone else.
So, there’s our Board! Now, once they all accept, I’ll get them organized on our first priority: Making Webcomic Planet THE place to be on the Internet. Well, at least for webcomics!
Thanks for everyone who voted!
PS: Arne “ancire” Schulenberg will be moderating the Forums. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the Forum you may contact him or myself and we’ll do our best to get you some answers.

Okay, you’ve spoken, and I’ve listened. Below are a list of names. I will be emailing this list to you all shortly. In your reply, pick the four names you want for the Board. Once I have your votes, I’ll tally them up and post them back here.
In short, here’s how I see the “positions” responsibilities rounding out. The President and VP essentially lead the Board, the Secretary is responsible for keeping track of communication with the Collective (Forums, etc.), and the Treasurer will be responsible for the Ads/Marketing funds we generate/spend. But, they have equal voices in voting, so who’s in what position is not of concern at the moment. The positions will fill themselves once the names are picked.

Hey! Send me the URL to your on-line store and any specials you may have for the holidays. I’m putting together a list to promote Collective Member’s stores and products. Even if you don’t have any specials at the moment, provide me your store’s URL as I want to put in all Collective Members who have store fronts of some kind. Doesn’t matter where it’s hosted, just send me the link! Let’s see if we can create a few sales for us all!
Send them to byron@1977thecomic.com or support@webcomicplanet.com Or even send a DM to the Collective Twitter account. Thanks!

Hi There! Thought I’d pop in and give you all an update of what’s been going on…
First, with Phil’s help, he and I have transferred hosting for Webcomic Planet and all it’s associated blogs/sites. This was a tad time consuming, as is to be expected and Phil was patient with me the whole time. As an official old fart, I’m not completely hip to all the techo-babble required to do things on the Internet. Now, if you need to know how to roll a joint… okay, that’s another topic…
With the hosting settled, now we can begin to work on things around here. First, I would like you all to nominate four members of the collective to become our first Board. This board will work to oversee the events of this site. I will work very closely with these four people and will act as a tie breaker in that event. What the board will do is represent all of you. These positions will require a small amount of time every month to chat with me about the ongoing/upcoming events of the WCP and the WCPC. I run very efficient meetings and keep things on topic, so this board will eat up about 2 hours of a person’s time every month. That’s it. We all have other things to do. Oh, it’s okay to nominate yourself in this case, that’s cool.
Here’s some things I’m suggesting for upcoming additions to the site. I am going to start up a twice monthly video segment that will cover the “latest” news in Webcomics and upcoming events. This short video (about 10 minutes) will be visually entertaining and informative. As a former News Director and video editor, I will be doing the production work with suggestions and news from all of you. Any event… new book, anniversary of your comic, conventions… whatever… will be in this segment. I will be using a “rotating host” for this segment with voice over work from myself and one other person (who will be named shortly).
Next… I want to redo the Webcomic Reader’s Choice Awards. This will be the first task of our new board to undertake. It is a great idea and needs to be done again in a group environment. The stats of the people coming by the site during the last event was very impressive and we need to follow up on this. In addition, I want to add an “Oscar” type event; like the Oscars, it will be voted on by our peers (us). We will put together a nominating committee (from your suggestions again) and get that started. The movie versions of these two awards are very popular and why not do them for Webcomics.
That is just the beginning. Lots more to come! So, send me your nominations, one each for President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. These are common titles and just help in the pecking order… not that being “President” of Webcomic Planet isn’t going to be cool at some point…
As always, you may contact me at byron@1977thecomic.com or support@webcomicplanet.com More to come folks!
As you may or may not have heard, Phil has stepped down as the owner/manager of Webcomic Planet and all the associated sites with it, including the Collective. As the new leader of the WCP, I thought it best for you to know what I have planned.
First, let me state clearly that nothing I am saying in this email is a reflection on the way Phil managed the WCP previously. It is a daunting task and he did it very well. I have nothing by the utmost respect for his skills and for what he’s created with the WCP. With that said, I move on.
I am in the process of assembling an advisory committee that will help me flesh out my ideas. These are associates of mine who’s opinions I respect and they are people who are not attached to the WCP currently. Mostly they’re business folks like myself who also happen to have a strong background in either marketing and/or the comic arts. This committee is strictly temporary to help me formalize my ideas before presenting them to the Collective.
I am going to run the Collective as a business. I have a plan on how to organize the current membership and make it manageable. I will be coming to you current members shortly to both nominate and elect an operating Board for the WCP and Collective. These four Board members will take in your ideas and suggestions and then decide on how to best implement them, as well as take my vision and input and move the WCP forward. I will not beat the Chamber of Commerce example to death, but in essence that is what the Collective will be, but modified to meet the needs of an on-line community as opposed to a “local” community.
The bottom line is we need to make the WCP a place where readers desire to come, time and time again. Once there, they will have an easy way to find content and thus find their way to your comic or website. We will offer them information, events and other opportunities that will be networking possibilities for us members to draw in new readers.
I know change is unsettling. Some of you may elect to leave the Collective. I would only ask that you hear out my plans. If they are not your cup of tea, then I will understand any of you who wish to move on. As stated, this is a business venture, and if you do not decide to continue on, then so be it.
Welcome to the NEW WCP Collective everyone! Let me know any concerns or thoughts and I’ll do my best to address them.

Starting today, Webcomic Planet is now under new management and ownership. WCP and WCPC are now owned by Byron Wilkins, the comic artist behind 1977 the Comic.
Byron intends on continuing the WPC and the WCPC. There will be some changes, but not until he has communicated with everyone, either via posts on the site or in emails. This is a great website and will continue to be so. It will grow too, but with your help.
For now, if you have questions or concerns, send them to him at byron@1977thecomic.com and he will address them as quickly as he can. There is a lot to do around here and he is still in transition with Phil.
Phil is still around as our technical guru and his chat room is over at Frumph.net. So if you need help with your Word Press/Comic Press site, he’s the person to see!
As for this site, sit back and relax for the moment. We’ll grow this thing together. Rock on, man!
Z&F hits a big milestone, folks! Just wanted to thank everyone who has given their support, advice, readership, comments and friendship! That is exactly what makes webcomics so rewarding!
